Staying hydrated is one of the simplest ways to improve your health. Up to 60% of our body weight is in fact water, which is critically important for digestion and absorption of nutrients, the transport of nutrients through the body, saliva production, maintenance of our body temperature and so much more.
And while water is readily available, it still can be hard to remember to drink it! We recommend starting the day with a big glass of water or two, and getting a good portable water bottle for you to bring with you to stay hydrated throughout the day. If you’re having a hard time drinking water at first, it can be helpful to keep track of your water intake. And if you’re still not convinced you should be drinking more water, here are five reasons:
Staying well hydrated helps maintain the elasticity of your skin, and many report a noticeable glow after increasing their water intake.

Dehydration can affect the flow of oxygen to the brain, and cause fatigue. Drinking enough water, on the other hand, can help boost energy and even athletic performance.
- Improve digestion.
Water helps your digestive system break down and absorb nutrients, which can decrease bloating and increase your vitamin and mineral intake.
- Flush out toxins.
Drinking adequate amounts of water will also help you remove excess waste and eliminate any toxins that may be present in your bloodstream.
- Promote weight loss.
Water can decrease appetite and increase feelings of fullness, as well as boost your metabolism.
To figure out how much water you should be drinking per day, multiply your weight by .033. So, if you weigh 60 kg you should drink 2 liters of water per day.
